Vintage Movie Poster
102+ Years Old. Guaranteed Authentic Original. Not a copy or modern reproduction.
EXTREMELY RARE
:
As far as we tell, this silent movie poster is the last surviving example in existence anywhere in the world. We simply can't find another example anywhere! And, just so you know
, the image shown on Wikipedia is actually from this poster. (A very helpful collector was able to ensure that the image was preserved by posting it online).
Original (1918) 102+ Years Old
:
Not a modern reproduction or copy. Completely original and unrestored.
This poster was evidently first acquired from the "ORPHEUM THEATRE" located at 137 4th Avenue, Moline, Illinois. The theater first opened in 1918 and closed in 1956. Framed under glass, (probably over 50 years ago), and completely protected from light, fading, dirt and damage for decades. The owners obviously knew that
that this poster was a real treasure then. It's certainly a greater treasure now! This poster is clearly destined to be displayed as a collection centerpiece.
Museum Quality and Rarity
:
One of the first posters ever made by Mr. Samuel Goldfish after he changed his name to Samuel Goldwyn. He
had formed his new "GOLDWYN PICTURES CORPORATION" in 1917 with the famous theatrical Selwyn family, (by combining parts of their two last names), but Samuel Goldfish liked the new name so much that he legally changed his own name in December, 1918, shortly after "FRIEND HUSBAND" came out in August, 1918. This poster also features one of the first appearances of the "LEO THE LION" ... which later became the most famous part of the MGM logo.
And if you
l
ook up "MADGE KENNEDY" you'll see that she continued on in some very famous movies and TV shows too.
A wonderfully rare and historic
movie poster!
