Description

Original Framed Movie Window Card Poster for D.W. GRIFFITH’S BIRTH OF A NATION.  This is for the 1933 re-release with added sound.
Cardboard Window Card Poster features vibrant chartreuse, red, and blue colors with a silhouette of soldiers on the horizon.   Poster was professionally matted and framed.
Dimensions:
Framed poster is 26.75” Tall x 18.75” wide.
Condition:
Some surface wear, light soiling especially in white area, consistent with age.  Several (nine) of what appear to be nail holes from where it was likely originally attached to a fence.

Brief History of this Film:
Film was originally produced in 1914.  While considered a milestone of technical achievement, the film is now near universally condemned for its racist depiction of African Americans and horrifying glorification of the Ku Klux Klan.    This 1933 version was personally edited by Griffith in cooperation with composer Louis Gottschalk whose music scores the entire film.  Gottschalk was an early pioneer of film scores and, in addition to his work with Griffith, also collaborated with L. Frank Baum on different Oz film scores.   Film had added color tint.
