    Description

    Here is an interesting and scarce doubled die in the Shield Nickel series.  This 1874 (FS-05-1874-102; Fletcher-12) shows doubling on the annulet, cross, upper shield, and leaves.  But the best and widest doubling is on the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.  A quote from a reference states "This particular variety exhibits the strongest known doubling of the motto  (IN GOD WE TRUST) of any Shield nickel doubled die."
    The close up photo I posted shows some blurriness, but even so the wide doubling can be seen.  Also note the strong die cracks.  I will try to get a better closeup photo.
    Circulated XF or so, with nice strong details, some abrasions around date, some weakness on the date, some discoloration around stars.  This interesting doubled die will make a nice addition to your collection.
